Skeleton Boy

Not only do they make really catchy songs, but make for adorable pictures. This one cracks me up, I can't stop looking at it. If you like this song or not, it will be stuck in your head and will grow on you. The first time I heard it, I listened to it probably ten times. These band members started their first musical project back when they were only fourteen, and now 'Friendly Fires' have played shows all over the world. Their most inspiring influences include 'Prince', which I think is pretty hilarious because when I listen to their music, I do not think of Prince at all. December 15th, 2009.

Airplanes

Hurry up and press play already. This song is more than words can describe. How lucky am I, stumbling across this band accidentally; truely it was no accident at all. I was looking for 'Cecilia' by 'Simon and Garfunkle' and found the cover by 'Local Natives', which I must say is the best cover I have ever heard, which led on to more discoveries. I haven't been able to find much information on them so here is to hoping that someone will let me know. With or without information about a band, you can still love them for their music, so check them out. December 14th, 2009.

Take It All Away

In all honesty, I actually just discovered this song today; though I figured it was pretty good and decided it should be shared for everyone to hear, so I'm not quite in the know about this band. They have six albums and have been around since the 90's so I'm a bit dissapointed that I haven't discovered them before-hand. 'Cake' has also toured with bands such as 'Modest Mouse' which just makes me all the more curious as to why I did not find them earlier. Their song 'Love You Madly' was featured in the movie 'Forgetting Sarah Marshall' which means many people have heard them before but just might of not realised it. Join me as I search for more songs by this new discovery. December 13th, 2009.

Believer

Okay so I'm not a huge fan of country at all, but the guitar in this sometimes seems a little country to me, this is probably the closest I will ever get to liking something of that genre. 'Ben Kweller' has toured with some fimilar bands such as 'Death Cab For Cutie' and 'Ben Folds'. So he's got to have a lot of experience due to the fact that he was taught to play drums at the age of seven. If only I was influenced to play intruments earlier. The lyrics to this song is pretty deep, make's me curious who it's about. December 12th, 2009.

Woman King

I found this song a few years ago and love it right from the start. If you haven't heard 'Iron & Wine' before, there's a lot you could be checking out. Also, if you've listened to 'The Postal Service' you may have heard Iron & Wine's version of 'Such Great Heights'. Same lyrics and everything but yet sounds like a completely different song that is very beautiful and soothing. Iron & Wine is Samuel Beam who is a father to four daughters, which I would think it would be so awesome to have as a dad - free shows all the time! If you ever get the chance to see him, do not pass up this opportunity! December 11th, 2009.

Go Places

Is it just me, or does it seem like this band has a ridiculous amount of members? But you can tell everyone contributes to the songs by how detailed they are. This is such an up-lifting song, how can you be unhappy and listen to it? 'The New Pornographers' actually came by my city a few years ago, but at that time I was foolish and passed up the opportunity which I have been kicking myself over ever since that event. Believe it or not, they're actually from Vancouver, so I wave to the West. I don't have much else to say about this song or band, so let the music do the talking. December 10th, 2009.

Our Love Has Made Us Pariahs

First off, let me say, I thought that I was the only one who paid attention to this blog of mine, but apparently not. I've got some surprising and flattering responses and I just want to say thanks so much for the support, my goal is to get great artists & music more recognition like they deserve. Now onto the song of the day - I had to upload this one on youtube aswell due to only live versions that were found. I have never met another person who listens to 'Empire! Empire! (I Was a Lonely Estate)' (what a mouthful, hey?) yet I think a lot more people should, I've listened to this song more times then I can count. I really do love it. Once again, thanks for reading and listening and I do not support illegal downloading! All songs are either purchased from iTunes or various music stores. December 9th, 2009.

Simple

Sound familiar? Well this is the treat I've been saving for you guys. Not the exact song I wanted to showcase, but this one is pretty fantastic aswell. Anyways, if this singer sounds familiar to you, it's because it's 'Andy Yorke', and no, it's not a coincidence, he is the brother of Thom Yorke from Radiohead. I originally wanted to have the song 'Revolution' by 'The Unbelievable Truth' which is the band that Andy Yorke is in - this though is his solo work. This song is titled perfectly, because the song itself is quite simple making it very relaxing to listen to. I hope you like what I've searched around for! December 8th, 2009.

Beautiful Mess

Wow, I don't know why I didn't post 'The Cloud Room' sooner. I have liked them for a little while now. I still need to get around to posting that very special treat, most likely will do that tomorrow. Back on topic, a friend and I think that the singer of 'The Cloud Room' sounds a lot like Seth Green. I guess we're the only ones that think so, because anyone else that I've explained this to does not agree with me at all. So post if you agree or disagree, and listen to more songs by The Cloud Room because they really are an awesome band. Actually, they've even toured with two bands on here I've already posted: Muse & Patrick Wolf (not together of course, that would be mind-blowing). Decemeber 7th, 2009.

All Love

I was introduced to 'Ingrid Michealson' a couple years ago by a friend. Borrowed the C.D. because at that time it was really hard to get ahold of, and now she's gotten quite big. You've most likely heard her songs before on commercials, T.V. shows and the like. I actually know a guy who met Ingrid and said she was a very cool gal, really down to earth, which is always nice to know when you admire an artist. She is definitely a person to look up to. Perfect In Between

Okay so this isn't the song I had planned for today, I could not find an audio clip of it on youtube, but I promise to upload it once I'm back at home (since I'm currently out of town and do not have access to the C.D.) Either way, this song is still a good one by 'DJ Champion', another great Canadian band from Montreal. I love the way the guitar sounds a bit heavy / dark, yet there isn't any grindcore vocals which I was expecting when I first heard this song. Once again, I promise the very special song for your awaiting ears either on Sunday or Monday's blog. December 5th, 2009.

Swans

So apparently this song is on 'Grey's Anatomy', which I wouldn't know due to the fact that I don't really watch T.V. Either way, I still really like this song by 'Unkle Bob' and sort of reflects me right now - if it were being written to me. They currently only have one full album, called 'Sugar and Spice' but I sure wish there were more from this fantastic U.K. band. They've been compaired to Radiohead aswell, though I certainly see no similarites. Hope you guys like this one from Unkle Bob, and there is a treat for tomorrow's post. December 4th, 2009.

You Were the Last High

A friend of mine believes that the beginning of this song is what it would sound like to be abducted by aliens...well in that case I guess this picture works quite well with this song. Anyways, I really enjoy 'The Dandy Warhols' because I find their music to be both pretty relaxing & soothing to listen to. You might recognize them from a performance they did on Saturday Night Live (even though I actually am sad to admit that I didn't think that was one of their better performances). Their song 'Bohemian Like You' was actually voted #85 this year in the Triple J Hottest 100 of All Time. That sounds very impressive to me! December 3rd, 2009.

We Were Born The Mutants Again With Leafing

Okay so don't ask me about the title, because I don't understand it at all and I think it's ridiculously long. All songs by 'Of Montreal' are super catchy like this and get stuck in your head all the time. Probably nobody remembers this, but Of Montreal was featured in the movie 'Cloverfield' during one of the party scenes before all the intense monster things start happening. There is a part where the song goes silent, but before you decide to go to another page - it is not the end! They put so many interesting sounds into their music and each captures my full attention. If you sit and close your eyes, it really takes you away. December 2nd, 2009.

The Widow

I actually haven't listened to this song in a very long time, but it never gets old. I actually discovered 'The Mars Volta' when they were opening for The Red Hot Chili Peppers. I find them very creativily genious, one of their albums lyrics was all from a journal of friend who commited suicide, I mean, how deep and depressing is that? If you have purchased any of their albums, be sure to listen to the whole thing without breaks, because they actually all flow into eachother. Each one chilling in their own way. Welcome to December! December 1st, 2009.
