In the Backseat

Alright, so I know that everyone's probably already heard this song, but it's been stuck in my head for three days, and it's a good song, so it deserves to be posted again. Pretty much every song by 'Arcade Fire' rules. They've gotten more and more popular over the past few years so I say kudos to them. You might've heard them featured in movies like 'Benjamin Button' and they even re-recorded their songs for the soundtrack of 'Where the Wild Things Are', which I've heard mixed reviews about in which everyone says the album is great. Tristan

Oh 'Patrick Wolf', you are both beautiful and talented. This is not my first favourite song by him, but I could not get the one I like the most up here. Talented is also, an understatement. He is known everywhere for being such the genious he is. I don't know what else there is to say about this song, really, so I guess I'll just let the song tell you for itself. Love it. Dumb Luck

Okay so I found this album when I was in the UK and I was totally stoked to show it to all my friends when it came back, because apparently it wasn't out in Canada, but when I came back - surprise! It was out in Canada aswell. I guess that's my Dumb Luck. Okay bad pun. Anyways, 'Dntel' meaning "Don't Tell" has songs featuring bands you love to listen to, including members from the Postal Service, and Death Cab For Cutie. Check out this whole album, also called 'Dumb Luck', has many good song you might've heard of like 'Rock My Boat'. Once again, I definitley recommend checking this album out, and if you don't - someday you will regret not doing so. November 28th, 2009.

9 Crimes

Alright, so most of you have probably heard this song, and I usually would've dug up something else, but today was one of those days where things haven't gone as planned. Some unexpected guests showed up at my house after their car had gotten stuck so now my brain is a bit all over the place. Whether you've heard this song or not, it's still enjoyable to listen to, time and time again. I remember showing this to a friend of mine a few years back and he was speechless the second I showed him. I think he actually ended up doing a duet cover of this song - but I mean, who wouldn't? It's beautiful along with everyone other song by 'Damien Rice', let me warn you though, some of his songs can be quite explicit. Hopefully tomorrow things will work out more accordingly. I Won't Let You Down

There's something about this song that I love, and I always find myself singing it around my work, stores, you name it. You have to give 'Duke Squad' huge credit, when they recorded this song their drummer was something like thirteen years old! How ridiculous is that? That's talent is what that is. I know the sounds of this song is quite different from the rest of the songs I've posted, but I just couldn't help myself from posting it. I'm glad to see more and more people of the younger generations getting their music out there, not only is Duke Squad a young band but they're also Canadian. Let me know your opinion on this song / your thought on young artists. November 26th, 2009.

This Thing About You

I actually discovered 'Miracle Fortress' in a very interesting and lucky way. Upon going to a Stars concert, they were the opening band for their tour, and they were absolutely Fantastic. I fell in love with their music right away, and for the last song of the Stars concert, both bands sung together and it practically blew my mind. I ended up buying their album 'Five Roses' from the merch. table and have loved it ever since. It was hard to choose which song off that album I wanted to upload, but here it is, just waiting to be listened to, I wish I had also purchased one of their T-Shirts at that time. Oh well, maybe next time. November 25th, 2009.

Ambulance For Human

Since I first started listening to 'Soup' a lot of things have changed. Originally Soup was a one man band, the talents of Erlend Aastad Viken. The song you are hearing, that's right, is the talents of only one person. Now he's added a few members to Soup so now that they can play live shows. Soup has been a big influence on myself and a few of my friends; even convincing one or two to start their own solo projects by using the same techniques of multiple recorded tracks. So Soup, where ever you may be, keep on inspiring. November 24th, 2009.

June Gloom

This is one of the most badass bands, an all girl trio that seriously rocks. You hear this song once and you'll recognize it anywhere. 'The Like' seriously inspires me into creating an all girl band, but nobody could beat these girls. Can you believe they started this band around the age of 15?! When I first heard of them, they only had some singles out but no albums. After all this time I still haven't gotten around to hearing their album, but I think I'm going to purchase it the second after I hit the 'publish post'. So I'm going to cut this write-up short and do that now. November 23rd, 2009.

The March, The Parade

Oh man, if anybody actually listens to this blog of mine - do I have a treat for you. I really can't get enough of this song and have wanted to post it for so long. After not being able to find any audio clips of it off of youtube to share, I finally got fed up and made a video myself. Took quite a few hours of figuring out how to make videos, and figuring out how to get back into my youtube account. This song is a real great one, and it was totally worth all the hassel to get this on here for you guys. 'Amestory' is amazing and really, I shouldn't have such a hard time finding their stuff. I think if more people hear this song, they will realise how truely talented they are. You better listen to this one; because I did all this digging around just for this blog! November 22nd, 2009.

Concerning the UFO Sighting Near Highland

This song has to be one of the most beautiful song I have ever heard. The one down-fall about it though is that it's so short! I wish it could have been longer but I still adore it anyways. 'Sufjan Steves' is an artist who I have never found a song by him that I dislike. One thing I really admire about him is his use of banjo in his songs without making it sound like one of those country songs that people tend to poke fun at. This song is slightly haunting as well, I think I tend to lean towards songs like this, it's something I enjoy. So enjoy this one from Sufjan, and around Christmas time you'll probably see some more from him. November 21st, 2009.

Right Where It Belongs

I've heard a ton of mixed reviews about this song. I, really love it. A lot of people really hate it - but really, it's my blog so I can post it if I want! I know it's a tad repetitive, it doesn't seem to bother me though. This is my favourite song by 'Nine Inch Nails' and like I said, there are many mixed reviews; so post your comments and tell me what you think of this song, love it or hate it? This is a song I have always loved since the moment it came out and I always will. November 20th, 2009.

Sandy

This is one of those songs that mysteriously appeared on my iPod and I fell in love with it the minute it came up on shuffle. The sounds of 'Caribou' to me sounds like they are a much older band, which I think is a great talent because so many things to me lately just sound the same, and Caribou has a ton of talent being able to encorporate all these different instruments and the like into the songs. There is a big selection of good songs by Caribou, it was hard to pick this song, it's really a tie between Sandy, and After Hour - which is quite a bit longer. Still good though, they're off they same album so check it out, it's called 'Andorra'. November 19th, 2009.

New Born

In celebration of my own birthday, I decided to make today's song by my favourite band of all time, 'Muse'. I would kill to see them live, I have always been the biggest fan, and it seems whenever I'm about to see them, something always comes up, and they never seem to come to Canada which is rather dissapointing. I picked this song, because it has to be in my top favourites by Muse, and it's off their best album, Origin of Symmetry, well, it's the best one in my opinion. They recently came out with a new album in September, at first I was a bit thrown off by it, but I've learned to love it just like the rest of their stuff. So Muse, if you're listening - I love you! Please come to Canada. November 18th, 2009.

Hoppipolla

This beautiful song is in Icelandic, even while I don't understand what it's saying, I still enjoy it more than some I do understand. Hoppipolla means 'to puddle jump', and this song probably has the cutest music video I have ever seen, to do with puddle jumping, Sigur Ros is one of those bands that I can love without even knowing what it's saying, just the melody and every note is perfect which makes Sigur Ros so great. This song has also been featured in movies like Planet Earth, and Penelope. November 17th, 2009.

Our Hell

A few months back, I went to a private viewing of an Emily Haines concert. It was quite amazing, but afterwards a few friends and I tried to meet her. Things didn't go as we had hoped and we were left with a bitter taste in our mouths. Needless to say, I was not happy; and really, I am really good at holding a grudge. This being said - I still think Emily Haines is one of the most brilliantly creative artists there is, and you must know that if I still highly approve of her music, you got to know it has to be really good. No hard feelings Emily, the event was nobodies fault, I've learnt my lessons not to try to meet bands in a cold alley anymore. November 16th, 2009.

Can't Believe a Single Word

This has got to be one of my favourite songs. I know a few of my friends haven't been having the greatest week, and I think this is probably one of the happiest sounding songs I have ever heard - and just listening to it puts me into a good mood. I really do love this song, I can't even remember where I found it, I think it was a few years ago, but it's quite a treasure. So enjoy this song by 'VHS or Beta', and be sure to put it on your "pick-me-up" type playlist or C.D. If you're curious, this song is off their album called 'Bring on the Comets'. Hope everybodys week gets better! November 15th, 2009.

Wrecking Ball

'Mother Mother'
is a band that was way over-killed on the radio, I've heard the song 'Body of Years' more times then I can count. But once I found the song 'Wrecking Ball' I had found a new love for them, and hopefully, you will too. I actually share my name with one of the band members that I find quite interesting. I'm also proud to say that 'Mother Mother' is one of our own, from British Columbia! Currently, they are touring with 'Matthew Good' I hope they come by my city! November 14th, 2009.

Ghost Under Rocks

First time I actually ever heard Ra Ra Riot was on the Late Show with David Letterman. I totally loved them, and little did I know, a friend of mine had actually put the same album that they were performing from onto my iPod without my knowledge. I listened to the whole album, and this was the song that burned deeply in my mind. The beginning of this song, to me at least, sounds quite a bit like Coldplay, but once the singing actually starts, it's a whole different experience. In some areas, they have more than two singers at a time, which you would expect to be a mess sometimes; but they make everything work so well. I also think that really, they should be more well known with a lot more followers, especially with a song like this. If you want to hear more off this album, it's called 'The Rhumb Line'. If they ever come through my city, I will definitely be seeing them, that's for sure. Novemeber 13th, 2009.

(Are There) Ways to Come Home?

I love this song. First time I heard it, I put it on repeat for longer than any person should ever listen to a song over and over. 'Death From Above 1979' was one of my favourite bands, and after they broke up, I wanted to hear some more but the remixes just weren't doing it for me. Both Sebastien and Jesse went their seperate ways, but I had to know what they were into afterwards. After finding Sebastien's new group 'Sebastien Grainger & The Mountains' I was hooked. Lucky for me, I was even able to experince them live and have the pleasure of meeting Sebastien himself, let me just say, he's quite the rad dude; of course after the request of a "Death From Above reunion tour" he was very much not into the idea of that. Too bad. Check out not only this song, but the whole album from this awesome group. November 12th, 2009.

Set Fire To the Third Bar

The minute I heard this song, I loved it. I was completely knocked off my feet by Martha Wainwright's beautiful voice; there's something about it, where it's both delicate and slightly haunting at the same time. I truely wish that she wasn't being featured in this song, but actually a part of 'Snow Patrol', I think if she were, I'd probably listen to them a lot more. This song is one of those that is constantly in my head - yet it never bothers me since it is such a treat to listen to. I hope you guys enjoy this song as much as I do, and happy Rememberance Day! Novemeber 11th, 2009.

Ageless Beauty

In celebration of my bestfriends birthday, todays song is by the band 'Stars'. A band we can share the same appreciation for, and even saw together back in November of 2007. Not only is their music thrilling, but it will blow you away when seen in performance; so if you ever get the chance to see Stars live, I would definitely recommend doing so. The sounds of Torquil Campbell and Amy Millan's voices go in such perfect harmony, that it almost seems as if they are a single powerful voice when sung together. Both singers also have their own individual bands, so be sure to check them out aswell. Happy birthday Erika! Novemeber 10th, 2009.

Climbing Up the Walls

It's hard to pick just one great song by Radiohead, but this one is definitely my favourite - from the album OK Computer which I'd argue is their best album; followed by Amnesiac. First time hearing this song, there was a scratch on my CD, so this song would keep skipping, and I knew I had to hear the whole thing. It has a catchy and eerie sound to it that I just can't get enough of. Just like Elliott Smith, expect many more songs by Radiohead to come. November 8th, 2009.

Kings Crossing

There's no denying that every singe one of Elliott Smiths's songs were a masterpiece; but apparently he had too much creativity for one person that the world couldn't handle it, and was taken from us way too young. He has to be one of the most respected artists in my books, and expect a handful more of Elliott Smith. I picked this song because it's one of those songs that takes me to a different place. As depressing as this song is, good memories are attatched. Rest in peace Elliott. November 8th, 2009.

How It Ends

For any of you who have seen the movie "Little Miss Sunshine" you will probably recognize this song. For so long I was in love with the instrumental version and had no idea that there was a version with lyrics. When I first discovered this song, I was convinced I probably wouldn't like it with the lyrics, but I fell in love with it. 'How it Ends' is one of those songs that you can listen to, over and over and over, without ever getting sick of it - well at least for me. DeVotchKa does an incredible job of putting a universe-sized amount of emotion into their songs. November 7th, 2009.

Your Hand in Mine

Starting of my music blog, only the best could be chosen for the first post. This song has to be one of the best instrumental song of all time. Deep as can be without even the use of one word, that's is what real expressive talent is. With every song by Explosions in the Sky, you can expect a wide variation of the most amazingly-composed instrumental music. So sit back and enjoy my personal favourite song by Explosions in the Sky.
